preserving the written word

There is something special about giving and receiving a card, particularly in the fast-paced age of new technology. A beautiful picture alone can speak a thousand words, but accompanied by a hand-written message there is no more heartfelt and intimate form of communication. We hope you enjoy 'spreading the word' with the new Wholistic Harvest 'nature to nurture' card packs.

Ripe for the picking

"Plump with nutrients and natural goodness, a tree-ripened apple is the reason life is sweet..." Wholistic Harvest

After months of watching, the first of our apples are ripe for the picking.

With their juicy flesh and tangy flavour, the "Jonnys" (as we affectionately call them) are well worth the wait. The other varieties will follow, providing a steady supply through autumn.

Blessed with rich, fertile soil and abundant sunshine, it's no wonder Australia produces some of the world's finest apples. Jonathan, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Pink Lady™, Royal Gala, Fuji... the line-up of native varieties is extensive.

Apples are an antioxidant powerhouse, high in dietary fibre, and a great source of vitamins and essential minerals. Of course,  freshly picked apples are more fragrant, flavoursome and nutritious than those that sit on the shelf or in cold storage.

Fruit is the final stage of the unfolding of a plant; the energy has moved upwards and outwards which is why, according to Health and Healing author Annemarie Colbin, most fruits "support openness, lightness, even cheerfulness".

Naturally, then, harvesting apples from your own backyard is a rewarding 'wholistic' experience - good for the mind, body and soul.

And like fresh flowers, a basket of apples in vibrant hues of red or green also injects freshness and energy into your home.

Most Australian apples are versatile - suitable for salads, sauces, juicing or baking.
But we believe the best way to enjoy apples is as they are - freshly plucked from the tree.

If you don't have an orchard, now is the best time to buy apples direct from growers at farmers' markets or from orchard farm gates.

Natural, durable, sustainable, stylish

The jute plant grown in monsoonal climates provides an affordable, biodegradable and recyclable fibre that has been used worldwide for centuries.

Naturally strong and breathable, jute cloth has always been the preferred fibre for sacks and bags to store commodities including wool, wheat and flour.

In the face of both opportunity and necessity, early Australian pioneers improvised. They re-used empty sacks and bags to carry possessions and sewed the cloth to create household items such as aprons and quilts nicknamed 'Wagga Rugs'.

Inspired by the hardworking men and women who shaped our nation, we are proud to introduce the Jute Market Bag to the Wholistic Harvest range.

Golden in colour, soft in texture and 'slouchy' in style, these oversized bags have an inside pocket and are the ideal casual accessory to throw over your shoulder for the local farmers' market or the beach.
